We study a variety of aspects of architecture. At some meetings our members give a short presentation on a particular aspect of Architecture - perhaps a building or a certain style they have studied or have an interest in, and we look at the social impact of architecture throughout history.
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month except during August, September and December. As of February 2025 we be meeting in room G9 on the ground floor at Broadway House, 4-8 the Broadway, RG14 1BA. There is full disabled access. Parking is available at Parkway or Pelican lane, but not free sadly. If you need any other adjustments, please email the group leader, who will be happy to discuss ways to enable you to join in.
In 2025 the group will be learning how the professionals work out the construction date of a timber framed building by tracing the evolution of building techniques and fashions. Each month we will learn about evolving features such as Durns, Gablets and Strap & Pintle hinges that indicate when a building was constructed or altered to suit new occupants or uses. Later on in the year we will visit various buildings to test out our new knowledge. (If nothing else it will give you a whole new vocabulary to use in Scrabble!)
During each meeting we will also have a short talk by an outside speaker or a group member telling us about somewhere or something they have found interesting.
