Groups currently running

Newbury u3a has more than 70 groups available covering a range of activities. The list is below, and can be sorted alphabetically, by category, by day of the week, or by venue.

Joining a group

  • The fastest and easiest way to access a Group (or Groups) is to visit that Group's web page (see list below) and send a message to the Group Leader via either the Group email address or the Group Leaders name.
  • New u3a members can attend one group session to try that group out before joining, but this must be by prior agreement with the Group Leader.
  • Note that not all groups are currently open for new members. Some may have a waiting list, and a few may have no current plans to accept new members. Look at the Group Status at the top of each Group page.

Cost

  • Our annual u3a subscription gives the opportunity to access as many groups of your choice as you wish, but if you do join a group, please do try to attend reasonably regularly.
  • Some groups need to share costs such as room hire or refreshments.
  • Theatre and Travel Groups are open to all members. Their activities comprise trips, outings and holidays and are priced based on the actual cost of the event to Newbury u3a.

Group Leaders

  • Group Leaders volunteer to give time to organising their Group(s) and should have a deputy.
  • We have a Group Co-ordinator who organises regular meetings for all group Leaders where common interests can be discussed and acted upon where required.

Starting a new group

  • Anyone having an interest that does not feature in our current list can speak to our Group Co-ordinator and set one up themselves. Recent examples are Pickleball and a Mindfulness Group both of which started with one member’s idea and they are now thriving. Alternatively, if the group dedicated to your favourite activity is full, you will be encouraged and supported to start up a new one.

Free Talks

Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday every month at The Baptist Church and all members are welcome. The Church opens at 1.45pm for refreshments and talks start at 2.15pm.
