This informal, friendly group meets once a month at St George’s Old Church Hall, Newbury.

We are a new group and are starting to find our way together in discussing art. We take it in turn to lead the meetings - which usually is in the form of a short talk which can be supported by printed research materials, articles in books etc and if available, a relevant DVD or clips from You Tube.

A small contribution to cover the costs of refreshments is taken at each meeting.

We started with a talk on The Mughals, following an exhibition in London, then we had two months of talks from members of Art History 1 on Hans Holbein and Dame Laura Knight, followed by our own talk on Art in Sicily and the painter Aldo Renato Guttuso.

In September, we have a talk on Jenny Saville, her exhibition of portraits is on display in the National Portrait Gallery.

No art history experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to engage in the discussion and to research a topic for presentation to the group.

The group is currently growing, if you would like your name added to the list, please contact the group leader or the u3a Office.
